Acne Scar Revision Methods
If you have a tendency for chronic bouts of acne, you would also have lots of marks left on your face, neck and shoulders. These marks not only cause a lot of itch and irritation, but eat up your self-confidence as well. However you can receive immediate relief by following certain surgical acne scar treatment options on your skin. Acne scar revision, therefore, comes of much importance in case you are seriously troubled by this disease.
Acne scar revision is the process of removing the obnoxious scars left on your skin by chronic acne. However, those with minor acne conditions can certainly manage without any treatment at all. It is also known that many people require only minor medications once or twice in a year to remove their acne. In such individuals, the scars left on the skin automatically fade away in due course of time.
Nevertheless, those with severe forms of acne scars need to use effective scar treatment options for relief. Laser treatment is one such process, whereby laser lights are used to burn away the dark patches left on your skin. Two major categories of laser are used in this process, namely the resurfacing or ablative lasers and the non-ablative lasers.
The ablative laser actually removes the outer layer of the skin and burns away the scar tissues. It also tightens the skin collagen, thereby reducing the scar visibility. Ultra pulsed carbon dioxide laser and erbium YAG laser are used most frequently. A lot of care is required afterwards to keep away infection from the opened tissues. The non-ablative lasers are smoothbeams which target the sebaceous glands and heat them up without injuring the epidermis. This results in reduced sebum formation thereby reducing the acne formation as well. The collagens also get automatically tightened which reduces the scar visibility. Filler substances are used for light acne scars which take up the shape of saucers on the skin. They pump up the hollowed scar area and reduce the scar visibility. Cosmoderm, Restylane, Cymetra, Artecoll, Fasciian and bovine collagens are available in the market. Hylaform is the newest filler that has been approved by the FDA. Dermabrasion is another surgical method for acne scar revision. In this, the skin is first anesthetized and frozen. Then a very sharp fast rotating blade shreds away the damaged tissues. The result is similar to that of laser resurfacing. Microdermabrasion is the microscopic examination of the affected tissues. Chemical peel includes the application of a concentrated acid combination into the skin. This burns away the scar immediately. It also requires a lot of monitoring of the injured tissues in order to avoid skin infections. Hence, acne scar revision has come of age as newer and newer techniques are being introduced. The time is not far away when acne scar will be completely curable.
